The Christmas season is upon us and it’s time for spreading joy and giving to those whom we love.
This is also a time for giving to those who need our help.  Let’s make this Christmas about giving of ourselves and our time to help those in need in some way.  Serving at food banks and homeless shelters or buying a gift for a child who is not able to receive this year, are great ways to show how much you care for their future.

2 Corinthians 9:7 Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

2 Corinthians 9:6 – The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully.

I encourage you that if you give a gift to a child or give to someone monetarily, that you keep it secret.   As Matthew 6:1-4says, “Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven. When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get.  But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.  Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.”
What is your motive in giving anytime, but more so now this Christmas season?  Your motives must be based on love and obedience to God with a pure heart.

Matthew 6:1-4  “Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.”

Too many times we hear in our daily lives things like, “What’s in it for me?”  Well, I’m here to tell you that the selfishness of that phrase is NOT of God.  It’s not about us, it’s about Christ and what He wants for us.  He wants for us to help in any way that we can to help those who need it.
Acts 20:35  In all things I have shown you that by working hard in this way we must help the weak and remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he himself said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

2 Timothy 3:2 For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy

Philippians 4:3-4 Do nothing from rivalry or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

1 Corinthians 10:24 – Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor.

I ask for prayer for those who don’t have a warm place to sleep, a job to go to tomorrow, a child with cancer, a family in chaos, etc.  I could go on and on with examples of people who need our love, support and help.  Let’s pray for them today and even after Christmas because I believe the giving and praying should happen all year long.

Remember the reason for the season…cliché, but true!  Without Jesus, we are nothing.
Have a very Merry Christmas and may God bless you all for your heart to serve God!
Love really does make this world go round.

Merry Christmas and have a safe and Happy New Year!
